Design classic (35) – the Womb chair

So I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with these bad boys.  Most of the time I’m just freaked out by the name (is that weird?!) and then not won over by the generally waaay too masculine styling of the scheme, but sometimes very occasionally I see an image that makes me all ‘yah I can see a brown leather version of this in my home one day…’.

Kinda like the Egg chair, most things are just better in brown leather:

The chair was designed by my main man Eero Saarinan (he of Tulip table fame) in 1948, at the request of Florence Knoll, who apparently also called it the ‘Curl chair’.

So here are my fave inspo piccies of the piece, make sure you let me know what you think of it!

Terrible name, but looks like a comfortable chair, especially with the foot stool! I like the built in arm rests. I want to sit back with a pot of tea and read a book on one right now.

  2. Elly, I would go for it, a brighter version, I was never so in love with brown, au contraire, so the pink one, the metallic blue one and even the beige version is magnifique (what’s happening with this English-French talk? aaaa, yes, I want to go to Provence :)))). Elly, hope you’ll have a lovely weekend :*

  5. I have long wanted a womb chair and ottoman set, but thought I should hold out for the original. Then I realized that I would Never have $5K for the real deal; and never actually spend that much. So I found this on interiortradefurniture.com and I am so pleased! It looks great in my home and is extremely comfortable and well-made.
