Ode to sunshine

I have not seen the sun in about 2.5 weeks people.  This is very serious – my vitamin D levels are plummeting and my skin doesn’t quite know what’s happened to it after 2.5 years of permanent sunshine.  Not impressed thus far with the Hong Kong weather and it’s not getting any better any time soon:

I guess that’s what I get for being a smug git in the Carib for so long.

Anyway, so I came across this crisp clean image the other day, and suddenly wham bam started craving a little nook to hole up in with a great book and cuppa cha – a craving I don’t think I’ve had once since leaving the UK in November 2009…

And here’s what I’d take with me!

How about y’all?  Read any good books lately…?

  1. I have the Purple Hibiscus on my night stand, I love it so much a had to put it away for a long time, I guess I wasn’t ready to face the fact that I have to seperate from it 🙂

Wish You better weather soon, if it doesn’t change untill July, you can always come and hang out with me in Tobago, we’ll be there untill the 1th of August 🙂

Oooh it’s fantastic, no? Such a great book.

Ah, I would LOVE to join you in Tobago, you lucky thing. Hope you get lots more Caribbean recipe ideas over there – whereabouts are you going on the island?

  2. Sarah says:

The BEST things I have read recently are This Thing of Darkness (Amazing novel about Fitzroy and Darwin discovering S. America on the Beagle based on the real ships logs that were kept at the time, it is a wedge of a book but couldnt put it down) and Wolf Hall (All about the intrigue of Henry VIII courtier Thomas Cromwell, brilliant). Not to mention the Reluctant Fundamentalist, and Louis de Bernieres trilogy starting with the War of Don Emmanuel’s Nether Parts – Elly (or anyone else) if you havent read all of these, YOU MUST!!!!! xxx

    • Elly says:

Thank you for the tips my dear, they all sound fab! I’ve read the Bernieres trilogy – they’re great, no? Bit weird but really good…

Loved your Long Song book on our honeymoon, thanks for the loan. Will get it back to you at some point – ooh it can be part of your wedding gift, haha.xx

  3. Kyla says:

Oooh, that home image is so lovely! It’s nostalgic of the beach, and makes me want to be outside 🙂 I haven’t actually heard of any of the books you mentioned, but I’ve been really into the Game of Thrones Series, A Song of Ice & Fire.

    • Elly says:

It is really beachy, I agree – I think that’s why it caught my eye, I’ve been missing the Caribbean!

Thanks for the heads up on the book, will have to check it out!

Hi darling! I send u many good vibes to you! Embrace it! Read, watch good movies, eat good food, exercise…As for my readings, I just finished Coelho’s Aleph (truly inspirational). I now have The Duchess of Devonshire’s memoirs and ‘Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking’ lining up 🙂 Bisous!

    • Elly says:

Oooh, an eclectic combo of books, love it! They all sound fab, thanks for the tips.

Thanks for the vibes too, will take your advice 🙂 xx

  5. I’m in book publishing, so I read a TON! I have been trying to hit various genres, because i seem to always choose the same type of book. I read White Horse by Alex Adams that was really good ( a debut author), and the new John Irving novel, In One Person.

Thanks for the suggestions, they both sound great! Wow, ok I now have a lot on my reading list to keep me going until the sun comes out, ha.

  6. Mum says:

Sarah has beaten me to it with The Reluctant Fundamentalist. The other one that sprang to mind is the second book by the Purple Hibiscus author, Half of a Yellow Sun.
