Rustic inspiration

I’ve been a little obsessed with vintage crates for a while now.  In fact, it’s been since visiting NYC in late 2010 and seeing these puppies in Anthro and Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market:

I don’t know whether its’s the rustic-y vintage look that appeals to me or that they just remind me of rural Blighty, but I’ve been thinking about them on and off ever since, and always seem to be drawn to any design that involves them, whether that be interior design or event design.

However, yesterday I was looking for some online for le wedding and was totally flabbergasted to discover they cost like £30 each!  £30 for an old bashed up apple crate?!  I do not think so.  The cheapskate in me took over and then discovered this little wholesale outfit that fits the bill perfectly:

And they even have a sale on right now…

Anyway, so this inspired me to have a hunt for some crate-y goodness in interior design – there is a surprising amount of it out there right now.

Luurve these kitchen storage accents, both the bright and the sleek:

Or use them in the bathroom for a cute vignette:

I can’t get over this design – seriously, that pendant too!

And this rustic-chic headboard is pretty genius also:

Fun way of displaying firewood right here:

And they look fantastic paired with this swing-arm wall light:

Or lastly, get a coordinating desk and the world’s largest pencil and you’re all set:

Or how about using them in event design…?  These pretty-with-a-capital-P floral arrangements would look right at home on our bellini bar:

Ok, I’m slightly distracted from the crate by this BANANAS floral display:

Hellllo succulents…

And this cute vignette is perfection!

Aah, ok I’ve run out of words, I’m exhausted…   I just wish I could get hold of some of these here in Cayman.

So whaddya reckon?  Too cutesy and cliché or right up your street…?

While I like the idea of the headboard, I’ve had enough experience with old wood to always be worried that creepy crawlies were creepy crawling out on me at night. Some of those kitchen shots were awesome! I can’t believe we used to grab old milk crates for storage for FREE when I was in college.

Ugh, that is a very good point about the bugs! I’ll have to have a ponder on that and see if I can come up with a solution… Buggy beds do not give you repeat work as an interior designer I imagine, haha.
