Great first impressions – part 1

What does your front door say about your character…?

Bold, brash and playful? Mature, structured and sleek?  Contemporary, edgy and minimalist?  Whimsical, diehard romantic?  Quirky, fun bohemian?  Traditional and chic?  Rustic vintagey charmer?  Elaborate, swirly and OTT?

Or…does it say a ‘puh, I’m kinda nothing right now, I don’t have time to think about my
front door I have more important things to do’.  Well people, if it’s the latter, you need to either read this pronto or employ me pronto.  Or both, preferably.

The front door/front façade/entrance hallway are the most important part of your home in my opinion, as they shape people’s first impressions and affect their perception of the entire property.  Sadly, it’s an area of the home that a LOT of people totally neglect instead of taking advantage of the opportunity to wow guests from the word go.

So here’s my round up of inspiration piccies  – whether you tend more towards the traditional approach, or want to let fly your wild bohemian side, there should be something here for you!

So first up are the bold, colourful and fun chappies:

Add some sleek lines, glass and metallics for a more contemporary feel:

Wood panelling, arches and columns give a more traditional take, even when paired with some surprising colours (LOVING the grey/orange example below!):

For drama and suspense, add a few ornate swirls and curls:

Colour it black for instant gravitas…:

…or for an edgy modern design:

Add a little bit of colour and a lotta bit of hippie to get these awesome bohemian looks (this is deffo my ‘front door character’ – must have a chat with Alistair…):

Or splash around lots of flowers and pastels for a romantic whimsical vibe:

And last but not least, the rural rustic designs – love me a good bit of distressed paintwork I do:

Make sure you stop by tomorrow for a comprehensive ‘how to’!
